The Police Companies |

|
A total of 4 Police Companies were created in Norway during World War 2. These were attached to various SS units and saw varied frontline service.
The majority of the volunteers were Norwegian police officers that had undergone Police training and service in Norway before receiving military training. |
|
1st Police Company This unit was lead by the Quisling Governments Minister of Police, SS Hauptsturmführer Jonas Lie. This unit consisted of 160 soldiers. Their initial service started with training in Germany during October 1942. Their frontline duty was a 6 months period serving with Freiw. Legion Norwegen (Den norske Legion) on the Leningrad front until April 1943. The unit was then returned to Norway and disbanded. |
|
2nd Police Company 2nd Police Company arrived Germany in March 1943 for training. They were originally supposed to be implemented into Regiment “Norge”, but was instead sent to the Finnish front during the fall of 1943. They returned to Norway in May 1944 when they were released by 3rd Police Company.
This company was initially under the command of SS Hauptstormführer Reidar Egil Hoel, and subsequently SS Hauptstormführer Asbjørn Reppen and at last SS Hauptstormführer Erling Waksvik. |

3rd SS Police Company This company released 2nd Police Company in 1944. It was then implemented in the SS-Jäg.Schi.Btl. Norge as their 3rd Company. The unit saw very little battle as they arrived Finnland just prior to their surrender, thus had no losses. After the retreat, they were stations in Northern Norway where they had recognizance duties. The unit was sent on leave for 3 weeks from 23rd April 1945, thus saw no further service.
The 3rd Police Company was first under the command by SS-Hauptsturmführer Aage Henry Berg and subsequently by SS-Obersturmführer Oscar Olsen Rustand. |
